Do you guys have an opinion about the flu shot, I was recommended to give one to my 6month baby, and am skeptical about it. I never got one myself. DOes anyone get the flu shot?

unless youhave a strong immune system, i would NOT get a flue shot - i got one last year and was seriously ill for 2 solid weeks - the fule shot is an injection of viruses and if your immune system is not strong, you will get sick. I am in my 30's.

DO NOT get one
guy in bc fairly recently got one and was seriously ill for years affected his whole life.
Do your research awful stuff.
Just be careful when you are out and wash your hands a lot.

I just wanted to thank everyone who participates on this site. I've never made a comment before, I'm one of the silent ones on here. But thanks to you all, today I was able to buy tickets to the movie Stone of Destiny!!! It's the first thing I've "won" on Jack's site. So thanks!

Who recommended that your baby get a flu shot at 6 months, if it's a doctor, I would suggest you seriously consider it. You can phone the nurses advise line for further information, check the City of Calgary Health pages or dial 311. If a baby encounters very high body temperatures or a fever during the flu, serious issues can arise which could affect the child for life. The 3 strains of viruses which are injected in the flu shot are dead. The human immune system recognizes these dead viruses as a threat and produces antibodies to fight these strains and only these strains. It takes 2 weeks to develop them in your body and it does not protect against other strains which can show up in an area at anytime. If you contract the particular strain of flu before the antibodies had a chance to develop, sorry you will be sick with a live virus and will experience the full brunt. If your allergic to eggs, they are used to culture the shot so you should not get one. We know how hard it is to decide what is right or wrong for your child but good doctors and nurses will take the time to explain the ramifications but do not be afraid to ask, your developing good parenting skills just like the rest of us that had too.

Shots of any type injected into a baby without an immune system can cause severe health problems. This is a source of extended controversy in the medical community. However, many medical experts agree that injecting a baby with anything that s/he has no immune system to combat can seriously compromise the infant's health, safety and welfare.

Consider reading the book called "Your Child's Best Shot".

I would be willing to bet money(lots of money) that all those who are against vaccinations have absolutely no medical training. Why is Bill Gates giving almost 1 billion dollars to help vaccinate children in the third world? Because children are dying there every day from preventable diseases. The flu in a young child can seriously dehydrate them such that they need hospitalization...worse can happen. As previously mentioned, the vaccination contains no live virus, but killed virus such that your immune system will recognize the virus when it arrives and will have the antibodies. Remember, nothing is 100%. The choice is yours, but the worst place to get opinions is from an anonymous forum where any joker can post their inaccurate and misguided opinion!

There is a difference between vaccinations and flu shots. I personally have had all my vaccinations, but have never had a flu shot. I have not had the flu now for nearly 10 years and very rarely get sick. I believe that this is because I don't get flu shots, and because I don't take needless drugs every time I get a sniffle or don't feel good. All of this has made my immune system super strong. (I'm 19 years old) No drugs is the way to go :)

Thought for the day:
In 1918, 20-40 Million people died from an influenza pandemic. Do you think any of them would have turned down a shot?

I agree with Anonymous, discussing this topic on a blog site is a poor place to do it. If you want facts, read the literature, talk to a doctor or health professional. Talking to a complete stranger in a forum that allows you to say anything you want will only lead to confusion.
