Hi Rita! As a military brat I've lived all over Canada but I've lived in Calgary 4 seperate times between 1974 and now and I agree that it's changed considerably but there are far worse places to live. I'd say you're bang on that the problem is that it was 100% women at your work. That is not a slam against women though, we used to be 100% male where I work and it was not the best environment either. Now that we have a couple women here, everybody is on much better behavior most of the time.
Any situation where there are only same sex individuals is tense; egos get in the way and there is no such thing as friendly competition.
I don't think that the problem is necessarily Calgarians, but relocated people. I have lived here for 8 years and I find that the more people move here from other places, the less friendly the city becomes. That goes for all cities, not just Calgary.
Today I witnessed a verbal attack against a transit employee, that included cultural slurs (that didn't even suit) by an individual that was clearly not a Canadian born citizen. We all are guilty of negativity from time to time, but somethings are getting out of hand.
SVU BC - hotter
Expect the behaviour issues to get worse rather than better (ie world state of affairs) as people lose their jobs (hopefully not!!!), and money gets tight. This will happen EVERYWHERE, and not jsut Calgary. We are very fortunate to be in the province we are in, and (again, hopefully), the downturn is not too steep for us.
Having said that, it won't last forever, and we are in a great position when (not if) things turn around! Take care out there!

Dear Rita,
You are now experiencing what Calgary was about and soon will be again. It is a neighbour caring for a neighbor be it a kind word, a smile, or even just a get together for a drink, oh hell with that, a party.
It's in the air or the water we drink, some can feel it, some can't, some never will. If you can sense it, you belong, your part of what makes this a great city, share the feeling, some never will, don't let them bring you down.
